St. Isidore’s Garden
Every year we plant a garden. Weather permitting, the land is tilled and prepared for the first seeds and tiny plants in March. During spring and summer, our volunteers tend flourishing snap peas, onions, peppers, tomatoes, and green beans with love and care. Flowers are planted, too, for color and fragrance. Harvested vegetables are offered in the Food Pantry during the summer and early fall.
St. Isidore (San Isidro), the patron saint for farmers, day laborers, and rural communities, was a 12th century Spanish farmer. He attended mass every day and prayed while he worked. During hardship and famines, he generously shared his own food with his neighbors in need.
